50/50 Sidewalk Replacement Program Announcement

50/50 Sidewalk Replacement Program Announcement:  A Community Effort to Enhance Pedestrian Safety and Infrastructure.

The Rocky Ford City Council is excited to announce the 50/50 Sidewalk Replacement Program, a new initiative to improve the city's aging sidewalks and pedestrian access infrastructure.  This program is designed to promote safe, effective, and accessible pedestrian travel ways throughout the community.

Under the 50/50 Sidewalk Replacement Program, the City of Rocky Ford will cover up to $2,500 for eligible sidewalk replacement costs.  This initiative is funded through the 1% Sales Tax allocated for street and sidewalk improvements, demonstrating the City of Rocky Ford's commitment to enhancing public safety and community aesthetics while responsibly reinvesting tax revenues.

Eligible Sidewalk:  This program covers all existing public sidewalks, including those in front of residential homes, businesses, religious institutions, and schools.  Sidewalks deemed to be in poor condition or posing a trip hazard are eligible for replacement.

Application Process:  Residents interested in participating in the program can apply by filling out the form available on the City of Rocky Ford's website under the Public Works page or by contacting Public Works at 719-254-7414.  Applications must be submitted by November 1, 2024, to be considered for the first round of construction season.

Program Details and Costs:  A standard 5' x 5' sidewalk square replacement is estimated to cost approximately $400 to $450, depending on the locations, with the city covering half the cost, up to $2,500.  Additional services such as root cutting, irrigation system repairs, and yard restorations are included if necessary.  The city also assumes full cost of responsibility for curb ramp replacements at intersections.

Construction Timeline:  Work is anticipated to begin in the Spring and Summer of 2025.  Residents involved in the program will receive prior notification of the start date.

This collaborative effort between the City of Rocky Ford and property owners is anticipated to significantly improve the overall infrastructure and safety of Rocky Ford's pedestrian pathways, enhancing the quality of life for all residents.
