A MESSAGE FROM MAYOR GURULE ADDRESSING THE PLANNED CLOSURE OF OBSTETRIC SERVICES AT AVRMC
Urgent Message to the Community (By Mayor Gurulé)
"Today, I sent a communication to Governor Jared Polis, Representative Ty Winter , and State Senator Rod Pelton, urgently addressing the planned closure of obstetric (OB) services at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center (AVRMC) and the devastating impact it would have on families in southeast Colorado, including our community of Rocky Ford.
The closure of these essential services would force Rocky Ford Families to travel over 120 miles roundtrip for care, risking critical delays and putting mothers and babies in jeopardy.
Rural areas, like ours, rely on local maternal healthcare to ensure the well-being of our community. The closure of OB services would not only worsen healthcare disparities but also threaten the vitality of our region.
Together with other Mayors from southeast Colorado, I am calling for Governor Polis' leadership and collaboration to secure the funding needed to sustain these crucial services and pave the way for long-term solutions in rural healthcare.
I am committed to advocating for equitable access to life-saving healthcare services for all people in Rocky Ford, and I invite you to stand with us in protecting these healthcare services."
